Do you remember the days when the world seemed full of endless possibilities? When your dreams were as big as the ocean? As we grow up, that fire in our bellies can slowly get dimmer, often replaced by doubts and insecurities that creep in as we go through life. I have definitely fallen victim to these feelings of self-doubt. Questioning if I was good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, experienced enough. I had left the UK as soon as I graduated and hadn’t stayed in the same place for more than a few years ever since – did that take away from my professional credibility? Always on the move, was I moving closer to what I was searching for or further away from it? One day last year, I made a choice. I chose to rediscover the eight-year-old Emma who had no reason to doubt that she could take over the world. I slowly began peeling back the layers of doubt and fear, fuelled by some very powerful conversations with friends, strangers, coaches and mentors. Bit by bit I slowly uncovered the resilient, determined, and fearless spirit that still lived within me. Today, I stand before you as living proof that it's never too late to reignite that spark of passion and confidence. I've re-embraced baby Emma’s dreams and harnessed them into a force that fuels my every step forward into this new life I am building. I married into a Mexican family, and let me tell you, their sense of connection is a revelation! Phone calls? Daily check-ins? *very slowly* prepping BTS for my return to work part time.. and here's what I've found about navigating mamahood and entrepreneurship: Becoming a mama is the best thing in the world, and the hardest thing in the world. The shift in identity, hormones, life as you once knew it.. everything. Motherhood doesn't come with a manual. ESPECIALLY if you're an entrepreneur and want to navigate this season of life being wildly present as a mama without sacrificing the momentum you've built in your business. I found as a mama CEO that I struggled to find my "village" everyone speaks of. Family Ties: Redefining Relationships This past year has involved concerted effort to truly reconnect with each family member - both my children who are rapidly evolving distinct personalities and my spouse whom I've changed alongside after 15 years together. While busyness threatens connections, I've prioritized carving one-on-one time for curiosity-driven conversations to discover current passions, perspectives and visions. We've covered hopes and dreams as well as anxieties. It's involved attentive listening more than dispensing advice. I've consciously concluded interactions with openings for future dialogues. My top lessons in replenishing these bonds are: 1.     Start with curiosity - not a sense of "This is what you should do" 2.     End with an opening for the next conversation 3.     Stay with trust and confidentiality 4.     Talk often and talk for companionship, talk about hopes and dreams and fears 5.     Build a link by sharing your stories too Here's to continuously evolving our roles as parents, partners and above all, understanding human beings. #family #evolution

People tend to shy away from posting personal things on LinkedIn, but being a mother is a part of who I am and I don’t feel it’s appropriate to shy away from it on this platform. I am an entrepreneur and professional like I am equally a mother. Us, mothers, grandmothers, and guardians, are the reason why our children/grandchildren aspire to become a success like us. Today, I choose authenticity and vulnerability in sharing this reel that I made for social media purposes. Initially, I wasn’t planning to share it, but I wouldn’t be the daring leader that I am if I didn’t. So here goes motherhood unplugged. We are heroes no matter what anyone says because if you can emotionally and mentally raise a child, then you should be acknowledged for it. For the people who may minimize the impact of a mother, grandmother or female guardian, keep in mind that it costs about $5,200 per month to have a full time caregiver in California. That’s $62,400 per year. When you choose to do it ALL, we are saving the household that amount. The term “mompreneur” or “mumpreneur” irks some but defines many. I don’t want to get mushy, but it was only when I became a mom that I truly understood the depth of a mother’s love, joy, sacrifice, patience, and generosity, among other things. Although I had sworn as a rebellious teenager never would I ever… be like her I heard my mother through my voice in shock 😳 sometimes when I spoke to my children. Then began the journey of healing and growth. Mothers are human. Mothers make mistakes. We do our best from what we know best in that moment. Mothers fail too. And #MOMPRENEURS? They are a different breed. They do all of the above while trying to raise their “biz baby”! #respect. I like the term because it shows that it’s more than just #entrepreneurship.
