5 Artists From the UNDRGRND Collection

UNDRGRND DIGS is a periodical feature showcasing artists that the UNDRGRND curators dig. We sift through the social media and NFT platforms to find the best artists waiting to be discovered. UNDRGRND believes in the artists we feature and we will purchase NFTs from each artist featured. Purchases will be airdropped to reward UNDRGRND community members.

Miami-based Alissa Christine is a Brazilian-American virtual reality (VR) artist blending the boundaries of art, wellness and technology with her pioneering 3D light sculpture paintings to be explored in extended reality (XR) as immersive, meditative story-telling experiences. Her creation SACRED PORTAL ENERGY VORTEX focuses on positive change by inspiring inner growth, spirituality and sustainability with love. Her first NFT Chakra Butterfly (AR) <3 VR light sculpture includes augmented reality and original music by SKARZ. Alissa’s art Strength was also part of The Arcana Crypto Tarot collaborative project by the Women of Crypto Art (WOCA). Her expression through visual media connects with inner consciousness as an inspiration to be transmitted to the receiver. The creations are multidisciplinary fusions of virtual reality, photography, lighting, movement, dimension, painting, sculpture and live display such as Major Laser Eyes inspired by AI character, Max Headroom with retro Vibes and VR glitches. Photographer, author, curator and visionary artist, artwork Bees Nectar reminds us to be illuminated by nature, permaculture and the healing arts. She published a coffee-table photography book entitled I Love Miami 365, which she says is, ‘A daily, yearlong meditative journey of gratitude, celebrating the soul of Miami from the inside out.’ Alissa was excited to announce to me that her Photographic images will soon be available as NFTs.

Kubilay is a cartoonist from Istanbul who enjoys drawing and turning his creations into animations. The power of these is in the everyday situations they portray. Often showing mobile phones charging and people sucking on cigarettes or straws. Time is also a recurring theme. At Door reminds us of the need to move while sitting quietly tying shoelaces in the public hallway to keep the lights on. Another great use of light and shadows is in Cooking For Sleeping Family where we can subtly make out the rise and fall of someone in the background sleeping on the couch while preparing ingredients for a meal. Whilst funny observations of everyday life, some of these like Lover & Liker show the real-life longing for affection which is often absent in a world of social media ‘likes.’ Doing Nothing #8 is one of a series of 1/1s where we stand bored waiting for some sense of purpose. In contrast Hot shows we can’t take time to savor our ice-cream as we must eat before it melts. When the day is done and we fall into an exhausted slumber, the glow of the illuminated screen in Notification ensures we get no sleep as we wait in the hope of a message from someone special.

Concept Artist and Illustrator from Portugal, Inês has a background in video games where she specialized in stylized and colorful characters filled with magic. Playing with concepts and joining disconnected ideas often results in fantastical characters and artworks. In a play on words, Losango (rhombus in Portuguese) and Angle LOSANGLE uses geometric shapes, light, and overpainting, to create a dramatic mystery filled with unanswered questions, dazzling colors and hidden motifs. Gleaming Love takes inspiration from spiraling shapes and a neon color palette, merging the ability to change colors, shining in the darkness, like a chameleon. In Trapped we witness a magical force imprisoned by ribbons and laces. One all seeing eye has the power to cast a spell over whoever crosses her path.

Sometimes the enemy isn't outside. In Shadow Self, you must give your enemy a name, a face. Only then can you finally see there is no enemy. Just another side of you, ignored and misunderstood.⁣ In contrast with the dark characters Sam, the Winter Elf spreads the lighter side of magic to the chilly season, creating delicate crystals on leaves and flowers. As Inês says, ‘Magic makes everything better!’

Hailing from Mumbai, Cyber Shakti is one of the first Indian artists to venture into the NFT realm. Her art brings the essence of divine femininity to the blockchain with artworks such as Hi Boo! in a kaleidoscope of shades, strength, sensuality, vulnerability and optimism. Through the blending of visual art disciplines including photography, glitch and video Violet serves the viewer authentic visual experiments. Glitch art inherently means something broken, erroneous. But using glitches to paint a picture like Sundate elevates its feminine energy and makes it so beautiful that we no longer remember it was broken in the first place. Her work is a commentary about the beauty and fashion industry as in Dream Flower where we bloom in the bathtub, alone, in the middle of the night. As a retired comedian, her humor and social satire are deeply observational about human behavior. She says that the ability to laugh and not take oneself too seriously is useful in her visual art and provides the ability to connect with people. We see this portrayed through vibrant pictures showing us a glimpse of public life in the Streets of Bombay.
