Thank you Hydra Energy! Having the opportunity to work with such a talented, innovative team dedicated to a unified purpose has highlighted for me just how much a small business can have a big impact. I'm proud of all we've achieved together and wish Hydra the best in their next chapter of scaling up globally. Hydra wouldn't have achieved the tech and business milestones we did without fleet customers willing to take a risk on new tech and supportive partners in the ecosystem like B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE), City of Prince George, Hydrogen BC and Foresight Canada. As a first time CEO, I particularly benefitted from the sage advice of those that grew great companies including Rod Graham from Velocity Truck Centres, Canada and Avi Salh P.Eng. from Solaris MCI. I'll post more on what I'm up to in the coming months. Don't hesitate to reach out - I look forward to staying connected with the many amazing people I've had the pleasure to meet along this journey :)
At the end of February Jessica Verhagen resigned as Hydra’s CEO to focus on her family and giving back to her community. She has been Hydra’s CEO since 2021 after starting as Chief Operations Officer in 2019. The company has benefitted from her steady hand leading Hydra from a start-up to one that’s poised to scale with her over 20 years of experience at the cross-section of finance, policy, and cleantech. Jessica will be staying on in an Investment Relations consulting role over the coming months. As the company moves into a new phase Hydra has the opportunity to bring on a CEO with expertise in executing infrastructure projects, such as Hydra’s upcoming one in Prince George that includes hydrogen production, the world’s largest refuelling station, and nearly 90 return-to-base truck customers filling up at that station. Hydra looks forward to building partnerships to replicate this successful template in the company’s next stage of growth. Hydra’s co-founder, Chief Innovation Officer, and Board Member, Badr Abduljawad will handle CEO duties during the transition. “Hydra remains committed to our vision to profitably connect hydrogen supply and demand thereby providing real, cost-effective solutions today to heavy duty fleets to decarbonise and diversify the fuel sources. The board thanks Jessica for her unwavering commitment to this vision and commend her leadership in advancing both business and technical milestones to this end.”

We're grateful to Alberta Innovates for the funding to make this milestone a reality for Hydra: a training program for heavy-duty mechanics to learn our two-day installation that converts a diesel truck into one that can also run on hydrogen! It was a collaborative effort with First Truck Centre's team that resulted in several efficiencies that brought our conversion time down even further. More great progress for the Edmonton Region Hydrogen HUB building off Myron Keehn's Edmonton International Airport (YEG)'s announcements last week :) Many thanks to those involved across BC and Alberta, including Dave Van Den Assem, Leith Hartley, Michelle Kwasny in City of Edmonton, Murray Grayson, Roman Tomica, Rod Graham, Tyson Whyte, Joachim Borck, Badr Abduljawad and Laura I Guzman. We also received support from B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE)'s Ged McLean and team.
Exciting news today as Hydra's latest hydrogen-diesel converted truck arrives at First Truck Centre in Edmonton. The conversion was done in record time at Hydra's facility in Delta as we develop a training program for heavy-duty mechanics in collaboration with First Truck Centre. In February Hydra received funding from Alberta Innovates that will help demonstrate to the Alberta market that our retrofit is make, model, and application agnostic. Over two years it will see three different types of heavy-duty vehicles converted. Having a reliable network like the 13 First Truck locations throughout Alberta and BC is essential for fleets, knowing they have somewhere to turn for any of their maintenance needs. #hydrogennow #canadiantrucking #transportation #cleantech https://lnkd.in/g8dFR-g3

Thanks for everyone's congratulations, this recognition was a big surprise for Hydra Energy given all the great work the other nominees are up to. It was a team effort over the long haul to get here and I continue to be inspired my colleagues. A big shout out to those who have championed and supported us including City of Prince George, First Truck Centre, VEXSL, PCL Construction, Solaris MCI, B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy, Alberta Innovates, Edmonton Region Hydrogen HUB and many more :)
Last night Hydra won the Hydrogen Mobility award at the Canadian Hydrogen Convention for "Hydrogen-as-a-Service: The Prince George Template". Hydra’s flagship project in Prince George is a living template for Hydrogen-as-a-Service™. It is comprised of 4 key parts: contracting fleets, securing an installation partner that will retrofit trucks with Hydra’s hydrogen-diesel conversion kit, producing hydrogen, and building a hydrogen refuelling station. Located along Highway 16 it is the anchor point for Hydra’s Hydrogen Corridor that will connect from the heartland of Edmonton (2025) through to Canada’s third largest port Prince Rupert (2026). HaaS is a template that can be replicated outside the areas of our main operations by qualified licensees allowing for a faster scale up of hydrogen adoption around the world. Thank you so much to the CHC judging panel, and to our fellow nominees Plug Power, Air Products, Powertech Labs Inc., Alberta Motor Transport Association, we were in great company! #Cleantech #HydrogenNow #Transportation

This SAE International paper between Hydra Energy's Pooyan Kheirkhah and The University of British Columbia's Mang Guan and Patrick Kirchen validates that Hydra's co-combustion retrofit kit on trucks not only reduces GHG emissions but does so without increasing NOx. Nice example of academia and small business collaboration!
Hydra Energy has proven that reductions in CO2 emissions are directly related to displacing diesel with hydrogen through a study conducted in real world conditions. Hydra’s Powertrain R&D Engineer, Pooyan Kheirkhah, has been invited to present the corresponding paper at #WCX2023 in Detroit this week. The study, which was completed in the 2020-2022 time period, validates the reduction of both CO2 and NOx emissions in Hydra’s hydrogen-diesel co-combustion retrofit kit for Class 8 vehicles. SAE’s Technical Papers are all peer-reviewed by leading experts to ensure high quality and dependable information. The paper, “On-Road CO2 and NOx Emissions for a Heavy-Duty Truck with Hydrogen-Diesel Co-Combustion” has been published by SAE International and is available to members or for purchase on their website. Anyone interested in attending the presentation in person can attend the Dual-Fueled Engines session PFL260 on Thursday, April 20th at 1:30 pm. Collaborators on the paper include Hydra’s Director of Innovation, Patrick Steiche, Hydra’s Director of Technology and Training, Tyson Whyte, University of British Columbia student Mang Guan, and UBC Professor Patrick Kirchen. Hydra wishes to acknowledge the contributions and technical support received from Dr. Steven Rogak, Dr. Gordon McTaggart-Cowan, and Dr. Ryozo Nagamune during the research. As well as the financial support of the Government of Canada through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Alliance Grant. Another milestone for our City of Prince George project to bring hydrogen supply profitably together with demand via Hydra Energy's conversion kits. Thanks to all the fleets below for your efforts with Ilya Radetski to bring the benefits of #hydrogen internal combustion engines to market! Securing this off-take is a critical piece in our next step to unlock financing.
Hydra is pleased to announce that we now have over 80 heavy-duty trucks under detailed MOUs across 8 commercial fleets, exceeding our initial sign-up goal for our hydrogen station in Prince George. The Northern BC fleets include Arrow Transportation Systems Inc., Excel Transportation Inc., Edgewater Holdings, Wilson Bros. Enterprises Ltd., BURKE PURDON ENTERPRISES LTD, Godsoe Contracting, Keis Trucking Ltd, and Peace Valley Industries (2016) Ltd. Our installation partner First Truck Centre will convert the vehicles ahead of our hydrogen supply coming online in 2024. These new fleet commitments and supporting hydrogen infrastructure from Hydra will make this the largest commercial deployment of hydrogen-diesel co-combustion transportation vehicles in the world. We continue to be encouraged by the reception of Hydra's technology by experienced trucking fleets of all sizes that service the City of Prince George and Northern BC. Prince George is the perfect template to show how Hydrogen-as-a-Service can bring together supply and demand in a way that can scale quickly to reduce emissions in a difficult to abate sector. Thanks to ATCO for being the first in 60 fleets that signed up to try a Hydra Energy converted truck as part of the Alberta Motor Transport Association roadshow on hydrogen in trucking to diversify and decarbonise our fuels. These big programs are never possible without a lot of hard work behind the scenes, like Trevor Van Egmond, Terri Johnson, Jude Groves and the AMTA team as well as First Truck Centre, Suncor, Brianne Wilson, Alberta Innovates and University of Alberta.
Last week the #Hydra - #Hydrogen diesel dual fuel truck was delivered to #ATCO a part of AMTA's Hydrogen Vehicle Demonstration. We'll deliver this truck to 26 AMTA members over the next year to try out this technology. We'll also be attaching emissions tracking sensors to validate the emissions reduction, more to come...
