At the end of February Jessica Verhagen resigned as Hydra’s CEO to focus on her family and giving back to her community. She has been Hydra’s CEO since 2021 after starting as Chief Operations Officer in 2019. The company has benefitted from her steady hand leading Hydra from a start-up to one that’s poised to scale with her over 20 years of experience at the cross-section of finance, policy, and cleantech. Jessica will be staying on in an Investment Relations consulting role over the coming months. As the company moves into a new phase Hydra has the opportunity to bring on a CEO with expertise in executing infrastructure projects, such as Hydra’s upcoming one in Prince George that includes hydrogen production, the world’s largest refuelling station, and nearly 90 return-to-base truck customers filling up at that station. Hydra looks forward to building partnerships to replicate this successful template in the company’s next stage of growth. Hydra’s co-founder, Chief Innovation Officer, and Board Member, Badr Abduljawad will handle CEO duties during the transition. “Hydra remains committed to our vision to profitably connect hydrogen supply and demand thereby providing real, cost-effective solutions today to heavy duty fleets to decarbonise and diversify the fuel sources. The board thanks Jessica for her unwavering commitment to this vision and commend her leadership in advancing both business and technical milestones to this end.”

Congratulations to our partners at Velocity Truck Centres, Canada on the opening of their hydrogen service bay in Abbotsford. Additionally we'd like to congratulate Velocity Truck Centers on their acquisition of First Truck Centre who became Hydra's installation, service, and support partner in 2022. The acquisiton means a larger reach with centers across 4 countries and over 85 locations, while benefitting from the experienced team at First Truck who has worked on installing hydrogen-diesel co-combustion retrofit kits from Hydra. Hydra was honoured to have Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy George Heyman and Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation Josie Osborne tour our Delta facility alongside our partners at Mitacs. Since 2017 Hydra has had ten Mitacs supported students work at our company. Our own Director of Innovation Patrick Steiche began with the Mitacs program as an intern and now leads our academic partnerships. The Ministers also took time to speak to current student Reza Farzam to learn about the project he's working on for Hydra, and hear firsthand how we are working towards a low carbon future in heavy-duty trucking. Working with Mitacs has allowed Hydra to co-invest in talent and progress our R&D goals as we continue to benefit from the depth of talent an innovation here in British Columbia. #innovation #cleantech #hydrogennow #bcpoli
